Human Rights Education
Human Rights Education: HRE is a long and continuous process of change to build a foundation of human rights in the society, which is one of the Amnesty International’s main objectives. According to the UN declaration on Human Rights Education, HRE is defined as the efforts in learning, educating, training, or providing any kind of information that aim to create a universal culture of human rights.

Amnesty International has a special team for Human Rights Education to produce content and tools, as well as designing learning activities for human rights education for various educational levels. We produce learning materials for both offline and online platform, and hold activities with teachers and educators who are a crucial force of the education system. We also build club and activist communities both inside and outside of classrooms, for instance, the Human Rights Friendly School project which aim to further develop the interests of and information about human rights education. More importantly, we also work in the area of policy advocacy urging the governments integrate human rights education into the national core curriculum.

Also, Human Rights Education is a crucial part of Amnesty International’s campaigns. We integrate Human Rights Education into our public campaign to create the most meaningful and positive impacts.
In 2021, the networks of Amnesty international’s Human Rights Education launched 167 projects worldwide. Over 2.07 million people in over 212 countries and territories have received knowledge and took parts in the protection and promotion of human rights. 90% of them are youth. Amnesty International applies a participatory learning approach which put learners at the center of the learning process. We connect and empower people’s freedom of expression and and work to protect human rights. Our Human Rights Education operate in both formal and informal institution, online and offline, with the integration of Education Technology (EdTech)
For Amnesty International Thailand, we began our Human Rights Education works in 1996. We grow the seeds of human rights through supporting and organizing learning activities in various forms including training and lecturing on human rights issues, visiting schools and universities, film and documentary screening, organizing panel discussions and exhibition, and producing learning tools and materials for human rights education with high school and university students as our main focus. Nowadays, over 40 educational institutes, both schools and universities, have collaborated with us. Many of them have “Amnesty Club” which is a social hub for youth who share interests in human rights issues and turn them into creative activities.
